Europe in Concert.
The very first Swatch musicall watch. Swatch were a large sponsor of Jean Michel Jarre's "Europe in concert" tour in 1993 and what better way to celebrate than with a musical watch with a tune by J.M.Jarre. Jarre is well known as an musical innovator and the chance to have a snatch from his Chronologie 4 track immortalised in an attractive Swatch was too good to miss. Jarre had a good deal of input in the design of the watch and composed the tune specially for Swatch. The musicall tune features heavily in the track Chronologie 4 from the album "Chronologie".
I got to the Manchester tour date which was acclaimed as one of the best concerts by many. I certainly enjoyed it.
This watch was for sale at the concert venues and sold well with enthusiastic Jarre fans. The maxi version was availiable in a very small quantity and hence is very difficult to find. The last one I know of sold for $1500 USD. There were also 30 huge versions (approx 30 feet high) made for the tour and these were draped over the sound towers and on the stage. You won't find one of those at your local store! Unless it's a very large store......
Jean Michel is currently about to embark on another European tour to promote his new "Oxygene 7-13" album. Get to one of the dates if you can. The show is a great spectacle as well as a musical extravaganza but Jarre hasn't worked indoors before so I'm looking forward to how he manages all the fireworks etc. Hope to see you in June at the Nynex arena in Manchester.
